Bishop Edward M. Grosz, auxiliary bishop of Buffalo, will present "The Role of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, in the Mystery of Christ and the Church" on Monday, Sept. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Pompeii Parish Ministry Center, 129 Laverack Ave. in Lancaster.

Many Catholics are ardently devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary accepting her as the Mother of God, yet there is a deeper understanding to be learned of how Mary can lead us to be a disciple of the Lord.

"The Blessed Virgin Mary was the most perfect disciple of the Lord" said Bishop Grosz. "Mary was there throughout Jesus's thirty-three years. There is much she teaches by her humanity, the visitation to Elizabeth, and the anguish of her seven sorrows."

Bishop Grosz's talk will explain how the Blessed Virgin Mary can lead us even closer to Jesus and how to recognize the role Mary has in one's personal relationship to Jesus.

Raised in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood, Bishop Grosz was ordained to the priesthood on May 29, 1971, by Bishop James A. McNulty. He celebrated the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a bishop on February 1, 2015.

Bishop Grosz's parish assignments have included churches in Buffalo, Cheektowaga and Niagara Falls, included among them pastor of St. Phillip the Apostle Parish and St. Stanislaus Parish. In 2003 Bishop Grosz became chaplain of the Western New York Division of the Polish American Congress. For 11 years, Bishop Grosz served as chaplain for the Felician Sisters in Buffalo.

Bishop Grosz was the diocesan director of the Legion of Mary and spiritual moderator of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. He also has author of two books "Celebrating the Marian Year" and "I Come to Serve."

A gathering prayer will be followed by the presentation and group sharing discussion of the place of Our Blessed Lady in one's spiritual life. All are welcome.

The gathering is free of charge (free will offering accepted). The September presentation is the first in a yearlong speaker series to be held at Our Lady of Pompeii.
