Sister Patrice Holahan died Jan. 9, 2017 at Mount St. Mary Hospital in Lewiston. She was 94.

The former Marjorie Holahan was born May 21, 1922, in Syracuse to James and Esther (Pierson) Holahan. She joined the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity in Stella Niagara in 1940 and professed perpetual vows in 1947.

She received a bachelor's degree from Rosary Hill College, now Daemen College in Amherst, in 1954. She received a master's degree in library science from Rosary College in Illinois in 1955.

Sister Patrice taught at St. Lawrence School in Buffalo from 1942-43, and at St. Anthony School in Warsaw as a music teacher and organist from 1945-46. In 1950, she began serving as a teacher and librarian at Seminary of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Stella Niagara, where she served until 1953. She was an assistant librarian at Rosary Hill College from 1955-73.

In 1979, she began serving as a librarian at Calasanctius School in Buffalo. She served in the same capacity at Mount St. Joseph Academy, also in Buffalo, from 1983-87.

In 1987, Sister Patrice began serving at Park School in Buffalo as a classroom aide until 1988, when she began serving at the State University of New York at Buffalo as a library clerk. Outside of the Diocese of Buffalo, she served at two schools in Columbus, Ohio.

After her retirement in 1989, Sister Patrice continued to volunteer at Crisis Services of Western New York, the St. John Eudes Center and AIDS Family Services. She moved to the Stella Niagara Health Center in 2010.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Holahan, and her siblings' families.

A funeral Mass was held in the sisters' chapel at Stella Niagara, with burial in Stella Niagara Cemetery.
