Bishop Richard J. Malone will have the honor of ordaining four men to the priesthood on Saturday, June 2. The special Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., Buffalo. Daybreak TV Productions, the television entity of the Diocese of Buffalo, will provide a livestream and replay of the ordination which can be viewed or shared on their YouTube channel @DaybreakTV.
The new priest candidates, who were ordained deacons in September, are Deacon Peter Nsa Bassey, Deacon Paul Stanislaw Cygan, Deacon Peter Santandreu and Deacon Gerard Skrzynski. Each of the men graduated from Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, on May 11, with a master of divinity degree.
Deacon Bassey is a native of Nigeria who also studied theology at Providence College in Rhode Island before entering Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora.
Born and raised in Olean, Deacon Cygan graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville and entered the Conventual Franciscans, a religious order of priests, before deciding the study at Christ the King Seminary to become a diocesan priest.
Deacon Santandreu earned a bachelor's degree from St. John Fischer College in Rochester and a master's degree from the University of St. Michael's College in Toronto before entering the seminary.
A graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, Deacon Skrzynski worked as a computer and software engineer prior to entering the seminary. He grew up in Lackawanna.
Following their ordinations, the four new diocesan priests will be assigned to parishes in the diocese where they will serve as parochial vicars.
