ST. BONAVENTURE - The Western New York Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Glen Cortese, will perform the program "Baroque for the Holidays" at St. Bonaventure's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9. It is the fourth concert in the 2015-2016 Friends of Good Music concert series.

The program will feature works by J.S. Bach, Glen Cortese, Francesco Manfredini, Giuseppe Torelli, Ralph Vaughn Williams and excerpts from Handel's "Messiah" with vocal soloists Margaret Van Norden, soprano; Meredith Smietana, mezzo-soprano; and David Stedge, tenor.

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra has a 29-year history of excellence serving Chautauqua County. The musicians' love of music and of this orchestra brings them from all over Western New York and Pennsylvania to rehearse and perform together. The ensemble of outstanding players includes faculty at the School of Music at SUNY Fredonia, professional musicians from the Buffalo, Rochester, Erie areas, and Olean's own Rintaro Wada, cellist. The Western New York Chamber Orchestra presents a concert series at King Concert Hall at SUNY Fredonia and also performs in Buffalo, Jamestown, Orchard Park, and for Friends of Good Music in Olean.

Glen Cortese begins his 11th year as conductor of the orchestra. He is the music director of the Greeley (Colo.) Philharmonic Orchestra and music director emeritus of the Oregon Mozart Players. His guest engagements have included Opera Fort Collins, Wolf Trap Opera, the Charleston Symphony, the Sapporo Festival Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Orchestra, the Sofia (Bulgaria) Philharmonic, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, among many others.

For all Friends of Good Music performances, Quick Center galleries will open one hour before the performance and remain open throughout intermission. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Museum admission is free and open to the public year round.
