St. Bonaventure University will host Tom Boney, vice president and general manager of Automotive Value Stream, Novelis North America, at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Dresser Auditorium of the John J. Murphy Professional Building.
The program, being presented in conjunction with Recyclemania and being offered as a plenary session for Clare 401, is free and open to the public.
The presentation will examine Novelis as the largest aluminum coil sheet producer in the world, with operations in North America, Europe, South America and Asia, as well as the organization's quest to achieve 80 percent recycled content for all of their production.
Boney, who has been with Novelis for the last eight years and has had assignments in North America, Europe and Asia, is a 1987 St. Bonaventure graduate with a bachelor's degree in finance. He also played four years of basketball.
Currently leading all aspects of the North American automotive business, including sales/commercial activities, program development and launch, supply chain and logistics, demand forecasting, service and order fulfillment, Boney was most recently named managing director for ALCOM, a part of Novelis.
Beginning his career in the aluminum industry in 1987 when he joined Alcoa as a field sales representative, Boney went on to hold several leadership positions over his 17-year career with the company. Of particular note, he led operations for Alcoa Wheels, a first-tier supplier to Chrysler, Ford and General Motors and joined Novelis in 2006 as Plant Manager in Oswego.
In the last seven years, Boney has served in several senior-level manufacturing and leadership positions in Zurich, Atlanta and Malaysia. He is the chairman of the Aluminum Association's Aluminum Transportation Group (ATG).
