Bishop Richard J. Malone has named Father Edward "Ted" F. Jost Jr. pastor of St. Mary of the Lake Parish, Hamburg, for a term of six years, effective Jan 1. Father Jost had been serving as the parish administrator there since September 2015.
Born in Kansas City, Kan., but raised in Western New York, Father Jost graduated from Bennett High School, Buffalo, and studied English and theater at Niagara University where he earned a bachelor's degree. He pursued his theater studies in California where he earned a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
Father Jost attended Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, graduating in 1995. Following his 1996 ordination, he received his first priestly assignment as parochial vicar at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Springbrook. He went on to serve at St. Christopher Parish, Tonawanda; Our Lady of Victory, Lackawanna, and Fourteen Holy Helpers, West Seneca. His first pastorate was at Ascension Parish, North Tonawanda, a position he assumed in 2006. The following year, he took on additional responsibilities as administrator of St. Albert the Great Parish, North Tonawanda, after the retirement of the pastor. The two parishes merged in 2007 with only the St. Albert the Great site being utilized. Father Jost was named pastor and the parish later assumed the new name of St. Jude the Apostle.
