BUFFALO, NY - Students from 19 Catholic schools will attend the BPO's Feb. 8 Music For Youth programs, in Catholic Schools Day at the BPO. The program begins at 10:15 a.m.  More than 1600 students are expected to attend this concert at Kleinhans Music Hall.

The program, entitled "Selfies: Musical Portraits" explores how humans have captured their own images and expressed themselves through music, literature and visual arts. This interactive, multi-media program explores "selfies" from the Renaissance to modern day, using music from each period to help understand musical forms, eras of music writing, and the instruments of the orchestra.  The music of Gabrieli, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy, Stravinsky and others will be paired with visual images from the same time periods.

The concert aligns with the Catholic Diocese schools' STREAM program. An acronym for Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Math, the program has been in existence since 2014 and drives instruction through interdisciplinary connections and hands-on learning. The Buffalo Philharmonic is a partner in this program, along with companies and organizations ranging from Moog to Cornell Science.

Schools attending are: Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament School; Catholic Academy of Niagara Falls; Ss. Peter & Paul School, Williamsville; St. Mark School; St. Gregory the Great; St. Aloysius Regional School; St. Joseph University School; Southtowns Catholic School; Christ the King School; St. John the Baptist School, Kenmore; Mary Queen of Angels Schools; Immaculate Conception School, Wellsville; St. Benedict School; St. Christopher School; Peter and Paul, Hamburg; St. Joseph, Batavia; St. Andrews Country Day School; Catholic Academy of West Buffalo; and DeSales Catholic School.
