Niagara University and NCCC begin collaboration

 NIAGARA UNIVERSITY — Niagara University and Niagara County Community College announced a new partnership that will increase engagement and improve collaboration between the two colleges, creating a seamless continuum of learning and leadership that expands programming in keeping with the workforce, economic and entrepreneurial needs of the region.

 
Father James J. Maher, CM, president of Niagara University, and Dr.  William Murabito, president of Niagara County Community College, signed a memorandum of understanding that will expand educational, residential and community opportunities for those served by these two institutions of higher education to foster a strong and sustainable Niagara region.
 
Specifically, the memorandum outlines several areas in which the two institutions will partner. Those areas include transportation and collaborative student activities across the two campuses; housing to meet the needs of students in 2+2 and dual admissions programs; internships, collaborative research, and service in hospitality and tourism management; teaching and study to meet the emerging needs of English language learners, international students, and teachers of English to speakers of other languages; and sustainable partnership strategies.
 
"We are very excited to be part of this collaboration with Niagara University," said Murabito. "Any time a major university and a community college in the same area share a platform to serve the community, great things will happen. This agreement will substantiate discussions that have been going on for several months with many different offices. While this is a big step, I see this as only the beginning. The partnership between NCCC and Niagara University has so many other areas in which to grow. When you really get interested in being a partner, the barriers drop away."
Father Maher noted that this collaboration will enable the two institutions to work together toward a strong Niagara region.
 
"This partnership with Niagara County Community College represents a congruence of mission and commitment to the region that is mutually beneficial, impactful and sustainable over time," Father Maher said. "There is no doubt that higher education can and does leverage change in the community - economic, workforce, social and educational. Clearly, this is a need in Niagara Falls and Niagara County. I thank Dr. Murabito for his leadership in establishing this public-private partnership which will enable us to make a difference and is a material change in how we work together."
