Recently, "Our Daily Bread" host Father Paul D. Seil was joined in the kitchen by Sharon Cavanaugh, director of the Work Appreciation for Youth program of Baker Victory Services. Also in the kitchen was James Stone, a WAY graduate. The day's menu included Italian stuffed peppers, basil pesto pasta and macchiato tiramisu parfaits.

"I was so excited to have the opportunity to share the WAY program and all the great things we do," commented Cavanaugh."The culinary program at Baker Victory Services provides hands-on training for youth interested in working in the community. This program prepares our students for the transition into the world of work, and how to be successful with that transition, by providing transferrable skills."

The WAY program was designed to help at-risk youth and young adults realize the value of education and work and develop skills to get and keep a job. The program operates several worksites which build job skills that can be transferred into an employment setting. It provides a comprehensive, individualized experience with tutoring, job counseling and readiness training, crisis intervention, life skills workshops and career exploration.

"I enjoy cooking. It's my life," Stone admitted. "In the fall, I will continue my education at St. Mary's Professional Culinary Academy in Buffalo. Being on the show with Father Seil was a lot of fun. I was happy to share my story and make dessert for the crew!"

To learn more about the WAY program, tune in to "Our Daily Bread," Saturday, Sept. 13, at 5:30 a.m. and noon on WKBW-TV Ch. 7, then head to the website for the day's recipes.
