The Legion of Mary will participate in the annual "Acies" at St. John the Baptist Church at 2021 Sandridge Road in Alden on Sunday, March 22, at 3 p.m.
The gathering is a time for members to consecrate themselves more intimately to God's service and to the good of the whole Church.
"Acies" is a Latin word meaning an army in battle array. Active and auxiliary members are invited to come together as a holy army for a general and an individual consecration to Mary, Mother of Jesus. Prayers will be said and the homilist will be Father James Ciupek, pastor.
The legion models itself on the ancient Roman army which was illustrious for loyalty, courage, discipline, endurance and success. Although trying to emulate these traits, the legion's greatest trait is Mary's example of loving, gracious service. Legion members work in union with Mary and depend on her in their daily lives, legion work and prayer.
Through the Acies gathering, the legion will receive blessings for the year of 2015. Refreshments will be available and guests are welcome.
