The annual Pulaski Day Parade is one of local Polonia's most celebrated days on the calendar. Organizors are happy with this year's parade, set for Sunday, as it features special guest of honor Loretta Swit, star of TV's "M*A*S*H*" and an American stage and television actress of Polish descent. Bishop Edward M. Grosz of the Diocese of Buffalo will bless the parade at 1:15 p.m. in the Thruway Plaza parking lot in Cheektowaga, and also serve as an honorary grand marshal.

The Pulaski Day Parade, in honor of Revolutionary War Hero Casimir Pulaski, will take place at 1:30 p.m. from the Thruway Plaza proceeding west on Walden Avenue to Harlem Road, north to the Cheektowaga Town Park. An area institution event since the days of World War II, the general public is invited to attend this year's parade.

Swit and Bishop Grosz will be joined with Polish National Catholic Church Bishop John E. Mack, Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard, New York State Senator Tim Kennedy, Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs, U.S. Federal Attorney William Hochul, Thruway Plaza DDR Corporation Manager Jeffrey Levy and WIVB-TV anchorman Don Postles.

Bishop Mack was assigned as diocesan bishop in 2012 for the Buffalo-Pittsburgh Diocese for the Polish National Catholic Church.

$6,000 in parade prizes will be awarded for bands, Veterans' units, floats, color guards, unique units, fire companies, religious, civic groups and other parade participants. To participate as a unit one should call Parade Chair Mira Szramel at 681-6739 or email to  ziggyszr@msn.com
