The Lasallian Association of Secondary School Chief Administrators (LASSCA) presented its Brother Michael Collins Award for Excellence to the St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Swing Choir, during its conference on Feb. 21, in San Antonio, Texas.

Robert T. Scott, AFSC, president of St. Joe's, accepted the award.

"The Swing Choir was acknowledged for their service for the poor and marginalized here in Western New York and wherever they visit.  God has given each of them a talent, which they continue to nurture here at St. Joe's, and they freely share their gifts with others," Scott said.  "This honor, coming from our Lasallian partners across the country, recognizes all the students, alumni, parents, and supporters who have made this incredible ministry possible."

"The St. Joe's Swing Choir is honored to receive the Brother Michael Collins award for excellence in the arts," said Michael Hooker, Swing Choir vocal director.  "The ministry of the Swing Choir has been to bring the light of Christ to the poor and marginalized through spirit, song and dance.  It is our responsibility to develop our unique gifts and talents through hard work and always striving to become the best we can possibly be:  spiritually, physically, academically and musically."

The award was presented in honor of the late Brother Michael Collins, FSC, who was serving as president of DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis, Minn., when he passed away 2012. The award honors his legacy and recognizes excellence in a Lasallian secondary school program, exemplifying some of his values, standards and passions.
