KENMORE — Kenmore Mercy Hospital has been named among the top 10 percent of hospitals in America for orthopedic surgery, joint replacement and spine surgery by Healthgrades, the nation's leading source of hospital data.

Kenmore Mercy Hospital was named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery, and also received the Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award, Joint Replacement Excellence Award and Spine Surgery Excellence Award, all of which place Kenmore Mercy among the top 10 percent of United States hospitals.

The hospital also received five stars from Healthgrades for total knee replacement, total hip replacement, spinal fusion surgery and treatment of pancreatitis.

The Healthgrades awards are part of its 2016 Report to the Nation, which highlights achievements in 33 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.

For its analysis, Healthgrades independently evaluated approximately 40 million Medicare records from nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Using a star rating system, the report identifies hospitals with "better than expected" (five stars), "as expected" (three stars), or "worse than expected" (one star) performance in a number of categories.

According to Healthgrades research, patients treated at a five-star hospital for a particular procedure have a lower risk of dying or developing an in-hospital complication than if they were treated at a one-star rated hospital for the same procedure.
