Sacred Heart announces distinguished alumnae awards

Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic high school for girls in Amherst, proudly announces five award recipients for the 2016 Christus Super Omnia Scholarship & Awards Dinner. The dinner event will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, at The Atrium @ Rich's.

TheChristus Super Omnia Distinguished Alumna Award recipients are:

• Marilyn Wittman '66 of East Aurora, is a retired educator and administrator who was the first female principal of Bennett High School. She was one in a small core of instrumental volunteers who worked to assure it would remain a Buffalo Public School, which opened this year as the new Bennett Campus;

• Maureen Forrester Finney '87 of North Tonawanda, is dean of the School of Health Professions at D'Youville College, including undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, is chair of the College's 120-person Middle States Accreditation Committee and is a practicing physician's assistant in Buffalo.

• Joyelle Szymanek Tedeschi '97 of Williamsville, is co-founder of the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Hope Center and Homeless Outreach Program, created a volunteer network and then secured funding to formalize Code Blue emergency warming shelters in Buffalo and is an adjunct professor at UB School of Social Work.

TheFranciscan Charism Award recipient is Betsy Sullivan of Orchard Park, a current parent and volunteer, who supports Sacred Heart Academy in every possible way, as well as the Western New York community. Currently Betsy is co-chair of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo's $100 million "Upon This Rock" Capital Campaign.

TheLiving the Spirit Award recipient is Crisis Services, a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the health, safety and well-being of the community through prevention, education, immediate intervention and access to community-wide resources 24 hours a day.
