On Saturday, Oct. 29, Houghton College will host a luncheon and clinic with four-time Olympic gold medalist and 10-time Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) All Star Tamika Catchings. The clinic is open to girls ages 8-18.

As the WNBA's all-time rebounding leader, Catchings is one of the league's most decorated defensive players. During her 15-year career with the Indiana Fever, she was named Defensive Player of the Year five times and earned a place as the league's most valuable player in 2011.

At the clinic, Catchings and the Houghton athletics staff will provide elite-level instruction in shooting and rebounding and conditioning strategies to improve agility and power, with drills and exercises reinforcing key concepts. Attendees will also receive an official clinic T-shirt. The luncheon will follow immediately afterward and feature a presentation by Catchings as well as a Q&A and autograph session.

Alicia Mucher, head coach of the Houghton women's basketball team, is proud to welcome an athlete of such distinction to campus. Mucher said that Ms. Catchings, "has absolutely been one of the most influential players in WNBA history, not only on the court but off the court as well. As a leader she exemplifies a strong work ethic, commitment, reliability and faith.  I am over-the-top-excited to have her on Houghton's campus at the end of this month."

Participation in the clinic and luncheon is limited, and early registration is recommended. Early bird and discounted team group rates apply. For more information and to register, visit www.houghton.edu/clinic or call 585.567.9556.
