Rite of Election and the Call to Continuing Conversion: Sunday, March 5, 3:30 p.m., St. Joseph Cathedral. At the Rite of Election, catechumens are "elected," or chosen by God through the ministry of the bishop, for the sacraments of initiation. The Call to Continuing Conversion for candidates for full communion in the Church is optional, although it is strongly encouraged that they attend.
Lenten Catechumenate/RCIA Retreat: Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., St. John Paul II Parish, Lake View. A daylong retreat for persons preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation, their godparents, parish sponsors and RCIA team members. This retreat will offer those preparing for the Easter sacraments an opportunity to reflect on God's call and their response.
Chrism Mass with Dismissal of the Elect: Tuesday, April 11, 7 p.m., St. Joseph Cathedral, downtown Buffalo. The elect, those who are preparing to receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and the Holy Eucharist at the Easter Vigil, will be dismissed after the homily to reflect on the readings of the Mass with RCIA catechists.
Mystagogy Mass: Sunday, April 30, 10:30 a.m., St. Joseph Cathedral. This Mass celebrates the sacramental life received by those who have recently joined the Church through RCIA. Bishop Richard J. Malone will welcome our newest Catholics and provide teaching through his homily. All who were received into the Church at Easter, their families, godparents, parish sponsors and RCIA team members are welcome.
