Catholic Medical Partners is pleased to announce that David R. Dougherty, DO, and Msgr. Robert E. Zapfel have been named to its board of directors.

A member of the Buffalo Medical Group, PC, since 1994, Dr. David R. Dougherty is board certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Medicine in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.  He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he has been an associate professor of medicine since 1997. Dougherty completed general surgery specialty training at Botsford General Hospital, a division of Michigan State University. He also completed a residency in general internal medicine at Botsford General, where he served as chief resident during his last two years. Following his residencies, he was awarded a medical oncology fellowship and trained at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo. In addition to his practice at the Buffalo Medical Group, Dougherty is program director and chief of the Osteopathic Medicine Residency Program for Catholic Health, and is an assistant professor of medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. In addition to serving on the Catholic Medical Partners board of directors, he is also a Roswell Park Community Cancer Network board member, and a member of the Buffalo Medical Group, PC, board of directors.

Msgr. Robert E. Zapfel is the pastor at St. Leo the Great Church in Amherst.  Prior to being appointed to the congregation in 2002, he held positions as an official of the Vatican congregation for Catholic education in Vatican City, Italy; vice chancellor for the Diocese of Buffalo; and associate pastor at St. Peter Parish in Lewiston. He has had a multitude of professional affiliations, including serving as chairman of the Corporate Members for Catholic Health, where he also is a member of the board of directors. He served as a member of the Hospital Ethics Committee for the former Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna, and was also a member of the board of trustees for Hospice Buffalo.  In addition, Msgr. Zapfel was recently reappointed as the diocesan representative for health care, an appointment he first received in 2006.  

He holds a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the Catholic University of America; a bachelor of sacred theology degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome; a doctorate degree and license degree in moral theology from the Pontifical Alfonsianum Academy of the Lateran University in Rome; and a master of business administration from St. John's University in New York City.
