LANCASTER — The Junior Ladies of Charity at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish collected 170 dolls this summer and presented them to a local missionary, Ann Marie Zon of Swormville, to be shipped to children in the Nicaragua Missions.

The Junior Ladies spent the summer months collecting new and gently-used dolls from St. Mary's parishioners and school children, and then wrapped and boxed them for shipment to Nicaragua. They also assembled 100 small silk purses filled with bracelets and girls' hair accessories.

The Junior Ladies of Charity have served an active role at St. Mary's for many years. The organization consists of girls in grades six through 12 who are dedicated to serving the needs of the poor, the elderly, the sick and the disabled in their community. There is no membership fee.
