St. Lawrence Parish at 1520 East Delavan Ave., Buffalo, will hold a special Mass of devotion to Our Lady.
St. Lawrence Church is the only national site of the Congrega Di Maria Santissima DelPincoronata, known locally as the Congrega Society. The society exists to honor the Mother of God under the title of Crowned Virgin. A devotion to the Crowned Virgin dates back to very remote times. There are references to other cultures as well as the European culture in Pescasseroli, Italy that has brought this particular devotion to Buffalo and St. Lawrence Church where it is continued and celebrated. The society is a prayer and service organization and celebrates this Mass to show devotion to the Blessed Mother as well as to ask for her intercession to prayerfully encourage acts of charity and service. People of prayer, faith and charitable good works for their parishes and communities are welcome. Members come from other parts of Western New York as well as from St. Lawrence.
Mass is celebrated in special honor of Mary on the last Saturday of April, commemorating the crowning of Our Lady and on the weekend closest to Sept. 8, the feast of Mary's birth. The Masses are celebrated in English with prayers and songs sung in Latin and Italian.
The Mass is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 9 a.m. with a meeting and free continental breakfast following. If you are not a regular member and would like to attend the Mass and breakfast please call Mary Jean D. Steinhauser at 716-656-7195 to be added to the breakfast count.
St. Lawrence is also the home of the latest Parish Mass in Buffalo 10 p.m. on Saturday evenings.
