SNYDER — At the end of the year Christ the King School held a fireside chat, inducted new members into its National Junior Honor Society, and showcased the talents of its students at an art show and band concert. Each event displayed the gifts and talents of the student body.
The Creative Writers Club hosted a fireside chat on May 29, where each student had the opportunity to read and share their work. The talented writers began their journey in February lead by Janeen Sullivan, pre-K through third-grade aid. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade were invited to join the club which met once a week after school. They were encouraged to use their senses to describe apples, with words like "crunchy," "squishy when rotten," and "magnificent." From there, writers were encouraged to create, illustrate and write about monsters, superheroes, hot chocolate and much more. Students were able to write and/or illustrate in any style they felt comfortable and to think outside of any literary parameters. Their favorite writing pieces and/or illustrations were compiled into a group anthology, professionally assembled by Papercraft Miracles.
On May 30, the National Junior Honor Society held their Induction Ceremony at CTK, where 13 new members were inducted. NJHS is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. Students are invited to apply in sixth grade. NJHS serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. At CTK, under the guidance of seventh-grade teacher Kristin Buckingham, NJHS organizes and executes several events each year. They hold an annual walk to raise money for charity, such as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Children's Hospital of Buffalo, Special Spaces of Buffalo and The Hope Center. NJHS also sponsors an annual food drive for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
An all-school Art Show & Band Program was held on May 31. The show, organized by art teacher Caitlin Kubera, displayed work from every student. The hallways were bursting with the talents of these gifted artists. A band concert followed in the CTK gym.
