Bishop Richard J. Malone has asked pastors in parishes throughout the Diocese of Buffalo to conduct special collections at Masses the weekend of May 9-10, with all proceeds going to Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which has mobilized immediate response teams in support of earthquake relief in Nepal.
"The scenes coming from the earthquake zones have been devastating," said Bishop Malone, who is a member of the CRS board. "I know the faithful of the diocese will be generous, as they always are, when we conduct these emergency collections. We continue to offer our prayers for the people of Nepal and the victims of this tragedy."
CRS is supporting the emergency effort with critical supplies for families rendered homeless by the quake: tarps and other materials for emergency shelter, means for clean water, hygiene supplies and sanitation needs.
