Among the recent clergy assignments announced by Bishop Richard J. Malone is a new director of the permanent diaconate office and the permanent diaconate program. In addition, three pastors have been named.  

Father Thaddeus N. Bocianowski, who was born and raised in Poland, was named pastor of St. Padre Pio Parish, Oakfield and Elba, for a term of six years. He had been serving as the parish's administrator since 2015.  

His first 20 years as a priest were spent in Poland and then South Dakota. Father Bocianowski moved to Western New York in 1991 and was assigned to Assumption Parish, Buffalo, where he served as associate pastor. In 1996, he was named pastor of St. Adalbert, Buffalo, and took on the responsibilities of pastor at St. Stanislaus Parish, Buffalo, in 2009.

Father James D. Ciupek was named pastor of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Orchard Park, for a term of six years. The parish's previous pastor, Father Bernard U. Nowak, took on a new assignment as pastor at Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Barker, in August. Father Ciupek had previously been pastor at St. John the Baptist Parish, Alden, since 2005.  

Father Ciupek has a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College and doctorate in chemistry from Purdue University in Indiana. He earned a master's degree in divinity from Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, in 1996. Following his ordination in 1997, he was named parochial vicar at St. Gregory the Great Parish, Williamsville, and then at SS. Peter & Paul Parish, Hamburg. He received his first pastorate in 2005 when Bishop Edward U. Kmiec named him pastor at St. John the Baptist, Alden.

Father John E. Stanton, was named pastor of St. John XXIII Parish for a term of six years. He had been serving as the parish's administrator since December 2015. Father Stanton, who, in 2013, was the first priest in Buffalo ordained by Bishop Malone, was parochial vicar at Our Lady of Victory Basilica, Lackawanna, before being assigned to St. John XXIII.

Prior to entering the seminary, Father Stanton was an attorney who worked as an associate at local law firms and was a partner at Brown & Kelly, LLP. In addition, he is also a certified public accountant and graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo's School of Law and School of Management.

Ordained in 1972, Father Barry Allaire has been appointed as full time Sacramental Minister at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Williamsville NY with residence at Saint Gregory the Great Parish, Williamsville NY. Father Allaire served as an assistant pastor at St. John Parish, Olean, for his first assignment as a priest. In 1983, he joined the faculty at Archbishop Walsh High School, Olean, and was named principal in 2006. He took on additional responsibilities the following year when he was asked to become canonical administrator at Southern Tier Catholic School, Olean. During this time, Father Allaire was also assigned to St. Helen Parish, Hinsdale, where he was administrator in 1983 and was named pastor in 2006.

Deacon Timothy E. Chriswell was named director of the Permanent Diaconate for a term of three years. He takes over for Deacon Gregory Feary and Deacon John Leardon who had been director of the diaconate and director of formation, respectively. Deacon Chriswell was ordained in 2009 and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Medaille College, Buffalo, and a certificate in pastoral studies and Master of Arts in Theology from Christ the King Seminary. He will continue his weekend deacon duties at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Clarence.  

Deacon Gregory V. Moran was assigned to diaconal ministry at St. Gabriel Parish, Elma. Prior to beginning his new assignment in mid-September, he had been serving at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Athol Springs, since his ordination in 2013. He continues his ministry of charity at Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo.
