The National Pilgrim Virgin Statue will come to more than a dozen parishes in the Diocese of Buffalo from Aug. 8-27. The statue is one of 25 blessed by Pope Paul VI for the 50th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions in 1967. To spread the message of Fatima, the statue was given to the U.S. by the Bishop of Fatima, Joao Venancio, the statue was entrusted to the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, founded by Msgr. Harold Colgan and John Haffert in 1947.
Bill Sockey, the custodian who now travels the U.S. with the statue, will carry the message of Fatima which was delivered to the world through three shepherd children in Portugal in 1917. The request by Our Lady of Fatima for prayer and sacrifice is for reparation for sin and the conversion of sinners.
