Musician David Haas is coming to Sacred Heart Parish in Lakewood.

Grammy-nominated musician David Haas will lead a workshop/retreat at Sacred Heart Parish in Lakewood, followed by a concert. With him will be Lori True, associate director of Music Ministry Alive, a national liturgical music formation program.

Carrying the theme "God Will Delight," the Sept. 8 event will take place beginning at 9 a.m., at the church, 380 East Fairmount Ave., Lakewood. The concert with Haas and True will begin at 7 p.m.
Haas labels himself a servant, composer, teacher, artist mentor, harbinger, author and herald. He resides in Eagan, Minn., where he serves as director of the Emmaus Center for Music, Prayer and Ministry and as the animator for the Cretin-Derham Hall Taize' Prayer Community in St. Paul. Regarded as one of the preeminent liturgical music composers in the English-speaking world, he has produced more than 50 recorded and printed collections of music by GIA Publications; much of which is sung and prayed throughout the world. As a conference speaker and concert performer he has traveled to all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Guam; as well as in several provinces of Canada, and in England, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Israel, Greece, Turkey, the Bahamas, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Singapore.

In addition to his pastoral service to the cause and renewal of liturgy and its sung prayer, he has several published books and has served as a consultant to many catechetical publishers.
In 1991, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for the recording of "I Shall See God." Several of his books have received awards from the Catholic Press Association and the Association of Catholic Publishers. In 2004, Haas was named "Pastoral Musician of the Year" by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and that same year he received the Crosier Award for Outstanding Service in Ministry, and later also received the "To Serve as Jesus Did" award from the Servants of Jesus community in Michigan. In 2014, the National Catholic Education Association awarded him the Emmaus Award for Excellence in Catechesis for his contributions to catechetical ministry.

A native of Bridgeport, Mich., Haas comes from a musical family and studied vocal music performance, piano and conducting at Central Michigan University, and completed his music and theological studies at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. He served in liturgy, music and youth ministry at two parishes, as well as serving as composer-in-residence at the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity in St. Paul, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Minneapolis, and as a member of the national advisory council for the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.

True is associate director of Music Ministry Alive!, a national liturgical music formation program for youth and adult leaders. In addition, she is active as a cantor, workshop and conference speaker, composer, concert performer, and recording artist. She has presented workshops for various national and regional conventions for the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and has presented workshops and performed at conventions and conferences throughout the United States, Canada, and Ireland. A longtime vocalist and performer on the recordings of Haas, Marty Haugen, Rob Glover, Ricky Manalo, and Stephen Petrunak, True recently released her debut collection of original liturgical music entitled "A Place at the Table."

Ticket price for the workshop/retreat are $15, and will include lunch. Concert tickets are $20 if purchased online at www.eventbrite.com or after Mass at Sacred Heart Church and local parishes; $25 if purchased at the door the day of the concert.
