Sister Mary Angelica Bielski, a Felician Sister for 67 years, who served the diocese of Buffalo in many ministries, died in Blessed Mary Angela Convent Cheektowaga on Aug. 9, 2020.

Msgr. Michael J. Yunk, a longtime Army chaplain, died July 30, 2020. He was 89 years old.

Sister Loretta Young, a teacher and administrator at St. Mary's School for the Deaf and an adjunct professor at Canisius College, died June 8, 2020, at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence in Clarence after a long illness. She was 89.

Sister M. Frances Joseph Piazza, a Sister of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities for nearly 57 years, passed away on June 7, 2020, at the age of 86.

Sister Mary Juanita Nowak, CSSF, 78, a Felician Sister for 60 years, died at Blessed Mary Angela Convent, Buffalo, NY, on May 6, 2020. The former Barbara Nowak was born on February 2, 1942 in Buffalo, and was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. She entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters on June 28, 1959 and professed perpetual vows on August 5, 1967.

Sister Joan Marie Benoit, RSM, a teacher and missionary, died April 20, 2020 at Mercy Center, Buffalo.

Father Donald L. Measer, known for his work in campus ministry, died March 9, 2020. He was 88 years old.

Father Andrew Tu Minh Nguyen, who has served the Vietnamese Community of Western New York since 2001, died March 3, 2020. He was 75.

Sister Rosina Amicon, who served as a teacher and home health care aide, died March 2, 2020, in Columbus, Ohio. She was 90.

Sister Eileen Barrett, whose teaching career spanned nearly six decades, died Feb.15, 2020, at Sisters of St. Francis Amherst. She was 89.

Sister M. Anthony Reichmuth, OSF, who spent the greater part of her ministry as a cook for the students of Stella Niagara, died Feb. 16, 2020, at Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara.

Father Dennis G. Riter, who has ministered to the Hispanic community of the Buffalo Diocese since his ordination, died Feb. 8, 2020, at Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.

Sister Consolacion B. Briones, who served as a dentist, nurse and pastoral minister, died Jan. 14, 2020.

Sister Mary David Rapnicki died peacefully on Jan. 9, 2020, at St. Francis Park, Hamburg in the 88th year of life and the 70th year of religious life.

Sister Frances Miritello, longtime educator with the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at Olean General Hospital. She was 76.

Sister Mary Vincentia Jachimski died peacefully on Dec. 18, 2019, at St. Francis Park in the 96th year of life and the 75th year of religious life.

Sister Marie Altier, OSF, who taught for nearly 40 years in various dioceses, died Dec. 17, 2019, at Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara. She was 95.

Sister Therese Marie Lucassen, educator and principal in Franciscan schools for close to 50 years, died Dec. 10, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany. She was 92.

Father Carlton J. Westfield, who served the people of Chautauqua for over 30 years, died Dec. 8, 2019. He was 74 years old.

Sister Mary Jeanne Kennedy, a longtime educator in the Diocese of Buffalo, died Nov. 16, 2019, in Fredonia Place of Williamsville Health Care Center. She was 85.

Sister Mary Ellen Keady, OSF, who taught at St. John's School in Olean, died Nov. 16, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, in Allegany.

Msgr. William Gallagher, a Desert Storm veteran who served throughout the Diocese of Buffalo, died Nov. 11, 2019.

Sister Mary Elise Finnigan was born on Oct. 12, 1929, in Kenmore and was baptized Dolores Margaret at St. Paul Parish in Kenmore.

Sister Marina Matracia, OSF, a Stella Niagara Franciscan for nearly 80 years, died Aug. 28, 2019. She was 98 years old.

Sister M. Christina Kraus, OSF, longtime teacher, died July 30, 2019, at Niagara Hospice, Lockport. She was 91.

Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell, who was known for his near quarter century as pastor for Sacred Heart Parish in Lakewood, died July 26, 2019, at the St. Joseph Campus of Sisters of Charity Hospital, Cheektowaga.

Sister Margaret Mary Hughes, teacher, hospital administrator and archivist for the Religious Sisters of Mercy, died July 13, 2019, at the age of 91. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Gerard.

Father Alejandro Roque, OMI, 66, died on July 10, 2019, at the Tufts Medical Center, Boston. He was a son of the late Carlos and Rosa (Gonzalez) Roque. He was predeceased by his brother, Rogelio Carlos Roque Sr.

Sister Mary Helen Royack, a longtime educator, died on June 28, 2019, in the Colette Hilbert Care Community in the 87 year of life and the 66th year of religious life.
