Bishop Richard J. Malone has named Kevin A. Keenan as diocesan representative to the New York State Public Policy Committee. In this role Keenan will serve as a voice for Bishop Malone and the Diocese of Buffalo to Albany legislators.

This month, the St. Gianna Molla Pregnancy Outreach Center will hold its fourth annual banquet to help benefit the center's ministry. The banquet will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m., at Classics V Banquet and Conference Center on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst. The event will feature a dinner and presentations from guest speakers.

WASHINGTON-In a letter sent to all U.S. bishops on January 16, Bishop Richard J. Malone of Buffalo, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, hailed National Marriage Week USA (February 7-14) and World Marriage Day (Sunday, February 8) as opportunities "to celebrate the gift and blessing of marriage and to affirm and support engaged and married couples."

Hundreds of people braved the cold, snowy weather, and the impending Super Bowl set to begin a few hours later, to attend a Mass of Thanksgiving for Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Grosz's 25th anniversary of Episcopal ordination Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Buffalo.

Throughout his time as a priest and bishop of the diocese, Bishop Edward M. Grosz has always stayed true to his Polish heritage and helped people in the traditionally Polish areas of Buffalo's East Side. Father Thaddeus N. Bocianowski, current pastor of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Parish in Buffalo, known as the Mother Church of Polonia, recalled how Bishop Grosz served Polish-speaking parishioners during his time as the parish pastor from 2003 to 2009.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo included the Education Investment Tax Credit in his 2015 budget proposal Wednesday, pleasing many Catholic leaders who have been advocating for the bill for years. The New York Senate passed the tax credit bill, which allows taxpayers to claim credits for donations to public schools or private scholarships for students attending parochial schools.

Catholic Charities and Bishop Richard J. Malone have officially begun Catholic Charities' 2015 appeal, with a $10.9 million goal and a theme of "Find Good Within." The announcement was made at a press conference Jan. 7 at Catholic Charities' A Gathering Place, an outreach program for seniors. The appeal funds 70 programs Catholic Charities runs in 61 sites throughout the eight counties of the diocese.

As the Church begins the celebration of the Year of Consecrated Life, the women and men of the Diocese of Buffalo are most grateful for the generosity that has been shown over the past 26 years through the Retirement Fund For Religious collection. During the 2013 campaign, the Diocese of Buffalo submitted $848,000 to the national office for the care of the retired religious.
