Sister Mary Martinia Skokowski died Jan. 13, 2015, in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in Buffalo.
Rita Skokowski was born April 21, 1924, to Stanislaus and Theresa (Marczak) Skokowski. She professed perpetual vows in 1951.
Sister Martinia attended Mount St. Joseph Teachers' College, now Medaille College, in Buffalo, and taught at St. Rita's Home for Children in Getzville for 11 years. She taught in diocesan schools for 28 years, also serving at Transfiguration School in Rome, N.Y.
Sister Martinia was principal or assistant principal at St. Mary School in Batavia, St. Bernard School in Buffalo, Resurrection School in Cheektowaga and St. Patrick School in Salamanca.
She began serving at the Villa Maria Infirmary in Buffalo in 1997 and came to the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in 2007.
She is survived by siblings John and Casimer Skokowski, Millie Sobczak, Josephine Sutton and Virginia Woley, and nieces and nephews.
A Mass was held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel in Buffalo, with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
