Sister Mary Georgette Zielinski died June 14, 2015, in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in Buffalo, at the age of 68.
The former Irene Zielinski was born Sept. 2, 1946, in Buffalo, to Anthony and Natalie Zielinski. She joined the Felician Sisters in Buffalo in 1964, professing perpetual vows in 1971.
Sister Georgette received a bachelor's degree in education from Medaille College in Buffalo and began her teaching ministry at St. John Gualbert School in Cheektowaga, where she taught second grade. Sister Georgette taught at elementary schools in the Diocese of Buffalo for 18 years and served as principal of St. James School in Depew for six years.
Elsewhere in New York, Sister Georgette taught at St. Peter School in Lowville, where she was principal for two years, and St. Mary School in New York Mills in the Diocese of Syracuse.
Sister Georgette also served at the Villa Maria Learning Center in Buffalo for eight years. For three years, she served boys at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home for Children in Cheektowaga.
In 2003, Sister Georgette was transferred to the infirmary of the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, where she served in the dining room and the mission awareness program of the Felician Sisters. She also helped with the Sister Mary Josette Food Pantry, affiliated with Villa Maria College in Buffalo.
A funeral Mass was held in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel in Buffalo.
