Sister Mary Jude Rindfuss, SSMN, died Dec. 4, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, at age 84.
The former Jane Marie Rindfuss was born March 28, 1932, in Buffalo, to Valentine and Mary (Redmond) Rindfuss. She joined the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in 1949 and made perpetual vows in 1959.
Sister Mary Jude received a bachelor's degree from Rosary Hill College, now Daemen College in Amherst, and a master's degree in theology from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora. She also took classes at the University of Dayton, Ohio, and the Baptist Medical Center in South Carolina. She also held a state certification in nursing and was part of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
She taught at St. Andrew, Blessed Sacrament and St. Paul Schools in Kenmore, as well as at St. John the Baptist and St. Mary Schools in Lockport. She also taught in Sumter, S.C., and served as a secretary at Mount St. Mary Academy in Kenmore.
Later in her ministry, Sister Mary Jude served for 16 years as the director of pastoral care at St. Paul Parish in Kenmore. She also served at St. Ann Church in Florence, in Oneida County.
She is survived by siblings Carol (late Ed) English and James (Pat) Rindfuss, as well as nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held at the St. Mary Center chapel in Buffalo.
