Sister Joan Carroll died Nov. 26, 2016, in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence in Clarence. She was 84.
She was born April 9, 1932, in Buffalo, to Vincent P. and Gladys (Stanton) Carroll. She joined the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1950 and professed final vows in 1956.
She received a bachelor's degree from Mount St. Joseph College in 1964 and a master's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1972, both in education. Sister Joan served at St. Joseph School for Exceptional Children in Dunkirk for seven years; Cathedral School, now Catholic Academy of West Buffalo, for 19 years, and Mount St. Joseph Academy in Buffalo for 15 years.
Later in her life, she served at St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Buffalo. She retired in 2012.
Sister Joan is survived by cousins Gary and Mary Johnson, Carl and Sue Jennings, and Ed and Sharon Martin.
A funeral Mass was held in Sister Joan's memory at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence.
