Sister Mary Dennis Buziak, CSSF, died March 22, 2017, in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center of the Felician Sisters in Buffalo. She was 94.
The former Helen Buziak was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Buffalo, to Adam and Theodosia (Wycichowski) Buziak. She joined the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province of the Felician Sisters in Buffalo in 1941 and professed perpetual vows in 1949.
Sister Mary Dennis received a childcare certification of competence from the Institute of Child Care School of Social Service at St. Louis University in Missouri. In 1950, she began serving at St. Rita's Home for Children in Getzville.
In 1955, she moved to Syracuse to teach kindergarten at Sacred Heart School. The following year, she moved back to the Diocese of Buffalo to serve young girls at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home for Children in Cheektowaga for 10 years. Elsewhere in New York, she taught fourth grade at St. Peter School in Lowville from 1966-68, after which she returned to become an administrator at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home.
In 1974, she began serving as an aide at Villa Maria Infirmary, now the Blessed Mary Angela Convent. From 1976-82, she became vicar of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province, after which she returned to serve at the infirmary. In 1989, she became a provincial counselor, and later ministered again at the renamed Blessed Mary Angela Convent.
In 2001, she began to serve in funeral ministry. In 2004, she became a sacristan. She became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in 2011.
Sister Mary Dennis is survived by her sister, Ann Buziak; as well as nieces and a nephew.
A funeral Mass was held in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel in Buffalo, with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
