Sister Mary Hope Zalewski, a Felician Sister, died Aug. 12, 2015, in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in Buffalo. She was 95 years of age.

She was born Anne Zalewski on June 3, 1920, in Erie, Pa., to Chester and Margaret (Nietupski) Zalewski. She joined the Felician Sisters in 1938, professing perpetual vows in 1946. She attended Mount St. Joseph Teachers College, now Medaille College in Buffalo, receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in education.

Sister Mary Hope began teaching fourth grade at St. Hyacinth School in Dunkirk. She taught for 37 years in the Diocese of Buffalo and six years in the Diocese of Syracuse, including at Infant Jesus Child Care Center in Perry, St. Alfred School in St. Catharines, Ontario, before serving as principal of Queen of Martyrs School in Cheektowaga, now Mary Queen of Angels Regional, and St. Stanislaus Kostka School in Binghamton.

In the Diocese of Ogdensburg, Sister Mary Hope coordinated religious education programs in several parishes and served as a librarian in diocesan elementary schools for six years. In 1996, she began serving at Villa Maria College and Villa Maria Academy, both in Buffalo.

In 2006, Sister Mary Hope began living at St. Francis Residence Convent, where she ministered to sisters living there. She began living at the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in 2012.

She is survived by a brother, Raymond Laski, and her siblings' families.

A funeral Mass was held in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel in Buffalo, followed by burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
