Sister Mary Odilia Majcher died Oct. 12, 2015, in the Colette Hilbert Care Community in Hamburg. She was 93 years old.
The former Florence Majcher was born April 15, 1922, in Buffalo, to Adalbert and Mary (Przybyla) Majcher. She joined the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in Hamburg as an aspirant in 1936, became a postulant in 1939 and professed final vows in 1944.
Sister Mary Odilia received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Detroit, after which she taught for 54 years. She served at Corpus Christi School in Buffalo and St. Mary of the Lake in Hamburg, as well as at St. Francis in Bessemer, Ala., Queen of Angels in Detroit, Holy Trinity in Lawrence, Mass., Holy Trinity in Westfield, Mass., and Mother Cabrini and St. Stanislaus in Shamokin, Pa.
In 2007, Sister Mary Odilia returned to the order's motherhouse in Hamburg, where she served the institutional advancement office and library of Immaculata Academy. She also served in the convent library. In 2010, Sister Mary Odilia became a patient in the Colette Hilbert Care Community.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and their families.
A funeral Mass was held at Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel in Hamburg, with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
