Sister Theresa Marie Malloy, SSC, 1924-2016

Sister Theresa Marie Malloy, of the Missionary Sisters of St. Columban, died Jan. 22, 2016, at St. Columban's on the Lake Retirement Home in Silver Creek. She was 91 years of age.

She was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Anaconda, Mont., to Joe and Maggie Malloy, both immigrants from Ireland. She received a nursing degree from St. James' Hospital in Butte, Mont., and worked at hospitals in California before returning to her home state to serve as a nurse there.

After Sister Theresa Marie joined the Missionary Sisters of St. Columban in Hyde Park, Mass., for her novitiate training, she professed religious vows in 1958. She went on to serve for 30 years in South Korea, helping at St. Columban's clinics in Chuncheon and the island of Jejudo off the Korean peninsula.

Sister Theresa Marie returned to the United States in 1988 and was assigned to Silver Creek, where she was director of the Personal Care Department at St. Columban's on the Lake. After retiring, she continued to serve at the retirement home where she would spend her later years.

She is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the chapel of St. Columban's on the Lake.
