Sister Patricia Reen died Aug. 29, 2016, in Sisters Hospital in Buffalo, at 85 years of age.
She was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Buffalo, to B. Murty and Marie (Carr) Reen. She joined the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1952 and professed final vows in 1959.
Sister Patricia attended Mount St. Joseph Teachers' College, now Medaille College, in Buffalo, receiving a bachelor's degree in education in 1961. She later received a master's degree in education from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in 1968.
For 10 years, she taught business at Mount St. Joseph Academy and Mount St. Joseph Business Institute in Buffalo, Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk and Our Lady of Victory Academy in Lackwanna, also serving as executive secretary in her religious community for 25 years.
In 1992, Sister Patricia received an associate's degree in dietetic technology from Erie Community College, and went on to serve in the dietary department of the Sisters of St. Joseph's Clarence residence until 2012. She was known for her love of animals and served as a docent at the Buffalo Zoo.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and their families.
A funeral Mass was held in the chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence in Clarence.
