Sister Faith McGahan, GNSH, formerly Sister David Martin, died at St. Joseph's Manor in Philadelphia on Feb. 20, 2017, after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. She was 79.
She was born on May 27, 1937, in Buffalo, to George E. and Catherine (Wilson) McGahan in Buffalo. She joined the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart the year after she graduated from Holy Angels Academy in Buffalo in 1954, and received a bachelor's degree in history from D'Youville College, also in Buffalo.
Early in her ministry, Sister Faith taught in Eden, Jackson Heights and Ogdensburg. She also taught in Lowell, Mass. In 1976, she moved back to Buffalo to teach for one year at Holy Angels School. In 1977, she began serving in the front office of Holy Angels Academy. She served as an assistant, then office manager, and later business manager at the all-girls' high school until it closed in 2013.
After her retirement, Sister Faith remained active in the community. In 2015, she moved to Philadelphia to live at Holy Redeemer Lafayette Residence with other area Grey Nuns.
Se is survived by a sister, Sheila Loveland, and a nephew, David Loveland.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in the Holy Redeemer Sisters Chapel in Huntington Valley, Pa., with burial planned for a later date in Buffalo.
