Sister M. Winifred Fox died June 6, 2017,in the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse in Clarence. She was 88.
The former Marcelline Fox was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Blasdell, to Edgar and Luetta (Haberer) Fox. She graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy in Lackawanna before joining the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1949 and professing final vows in 1955.
For 60 years, Sister Winifred served at St. Mary's School for the Deaf and Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, both in Buffalo, and the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse, where she served as a cook in the kitchens. She was especially known for her culinary creations including potato salad, fudge sauce and macaroni and cheese, which she served to students at the school and sisters in both residences. She retired in 2010.
She is survived by two sisters, Rita (Patrick) Dendler and Patricia (John) Barbus, and her siblings' families.
A funeral Mass was held in the Sisters of St. Joseph residence.
