Brother Louis N. Mauro, SJ, died July 28, 2017, at Murray-Weigel Hall in the Bronx. He was 75.
He was born Jan. 8, 1942, in Lackawanna, to Louis and Rose Mary (Pacillo) Mauro, and joined the Society of Jesus in 1961 at St. Andrew-on-Hudson in Poughkeepsie. He pronounced final vows at Canisius High School in Buffalo in 1978 and was ordained to the diaconate in 1982, also in Buffalo.
Brother Louis served as a permanent deacon of the Diocese of Buffalo and the Archdiocese of Newark, N.J. In the Jesuit order, he served as treasure of the Xavier Jesuit community and was a former treasurer of Canisius High School.
He was the brother of Annette (Dominic) Salemi, Loretta (Gerald) Tomasulo, and the late Rita (Richard) Sniezak.
A funeral Mass was held in the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City, with burial in the Jesuit cemetery in Auriesville. A memorial service will be celebrated in Buffalo at a later date.
