Sister Mary Charitine Stankiewicz, CSSF, died Oct. 9, 2017, in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in Cheektowaga. She was 94.
The former Dorothy Stankiewicz was born July 30, 1923, in Buffalo, to John and Veronica (Biganowski) Stankiewicz. She joined the Felician Sisters in 1941 and professed perpetual vows in 1949.
She received a bachelor's degree from Canisius College in Buffalo and a master's degree from St. Bonaventure University.
Sister Charitine began her ministry teaching at Queen of All Saints School in Lackawanna, and went on to serve as a teacher for 55 years at various schools throughout the diocese. She also served as a principal at St. Edmund School in Tonawanda in addition to teaching there for six years.
In 1997, Sister Charitine began serving at Villa Angela Convent in Elma, where she served in maintenance and provided hospitality. In 2004, she began providing auxiliary services at the order's provincial house until 2006, when she moved to the St. Francis Residence Convent in Buffalo.
Sister Charitine was the sister of the late Henry (Joyce) Stanky, Helen Babinski and Mary Pieczynski.
A funeral Mass was held in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel in Cheektowaga.
