Sister Mary Conrad Marie Glica, FSSJ, died Jan. 1, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Convent in Hamburg. She was 83.
The former Marie Alice Glica was born Feb. 27, 1934, in North Tonawanda, to Stanley and Caroline (Wiech) Glieca. She became a postulant with the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in 1952 and professed final vows in 1957.
She received a master's degree in education from St. Bonaventure University and began a teaching ministry that lasted 30 years. She taught at Holy Trinity School in Niagara Falls, St. Joseph in North Tonawanda, St. Vincent in North Evans, Mother of Divine Grace in Cheektowaga and St. Hyacinth in Auburn, as well as in Detroit. She also served as principal of Immaculata Academy in Hamburg and St. Joseph, as well as at St. Michael School in Bridgeport, Conn., and St. Stanislaus in Trenton, NJ.
Additionally, Sister Conrad Marie served as director of religious education at St. Peter Parish in Lewiston and in pastoral ministry at Mater Dolorosa in Holyoke, Mass. While in New York state, she volunteered in faith formation with state correctional services. Later in her life, Sister Conrad Marie volunteered in the Employee Benefits office of the St. Joseph campus of Sisters of Charity Hospital in Cheektowaga. She became a patient in the order's care community in 2015.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and their families.
A funeral Mass was held in the Immaculate Conception Convent chapel in Hamburg, with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
