The Harmonia Chamber Singers, a professional vocal ensemble that performs across Western New York, will be performing at a special concert in Williamsville in October and a Latin Requiem Mass in downtown Buffalo in November.
On Saturday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., Harmonia will perform "The Road Home: A Requiem For Those We Love" at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 5480 Main St., with guest conductor Robert Duerr.
This October concert begins another year of journey on The Road Home with Harmonia. Most people experience a home base in their life, while others are often on the road. Yet, in all situations, there is also a longing for a road home that settles us and is, eventually, eternal.
The music of this opening concert offers a journey full of glimpses and foretastes to such a home. The exquisite music of medieval chant, Renaissance, Baroque, modern, and contemporary music, including Monteverdi, Schütz, Bach, Rheinberger, Elgar, Paulus and Shawn Kirchner will be performed. The Road Home entices the listener to explore and deepen his or her own road home. A $15 donation will be requested at the door.
On Sunday, Nov. 5, at 4 p.m., Harmonia will perform at a special sacred event, "Requiem: a Dedication," a Tridentine Latin Requiem Mass, at St. Louis Church, 35 Edward St., with Father Paul Nogaro and Father Jeffrey Nowak celebrating the Mass. Robert Duerr will conduct.
At this event, Harmonia will sing music from the Requiems of Lobo, Cardoso, Palestrina and Victoria, plus Monteverdi and Elgar. Hear beautiful plainchant and polyphony in its intended setting. This Mass is a dedication to our deceased loved ones. Free will offerings will be gratefully accepted at this event.
