Joan Dobrin's work brings the written word to life.
At a time in which the written word has become highly digitized, Joan Dobrin is one of very few Western New York artists specializing in traditional hand-scribed calligraphy.
A person of faith, Dobrin's calligraphy flourishes in many forms, including hand-scribed wedding vows, religious photography with biblical verses, and even personalized custom pieces of art with quotes, poems and heartfelt messages. Through all her religious-based calligraphy, Dobrin says her goal is to "spread the word of God, one letter at a time."
Over the past several years, Dobrin's work has been featured at St. Gregory the Great's annual craft show, in which she has showcased many unique, hand-scribed biblical pieces. Whether it's a bride's wedding invitations or a still image of one's pet with a biblical verse, she strives to put the perfect handwritten touch on every piece she creates.
Always hoping to inspire others and spark emotion, Dobrin explains, "What initially started for me as a hobby many years ago has truly turned into one of the most meaningful parts of my life. It's been a blessing to touch the lives of so many people through my calligraphy."
