Sister Brigid Conboy, OSF, a missionary in Indonesia, died Sept. 28 in St. Elisabeth Hospital in Semarang, Indonesia. She was 94.

The former Maire Conboy was born in Buffalo on Aug. 22, 1922, to Joseph and Anne Conboy, and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1940. She joined the Sisters of St. Francis in Stella Niagara, professing final vows in 1943, and taught at St. Benedict School in Buffalo.

In 1955, she volunteered to serve as a missionary in Indonesia. While there, she taught and was involved in the training of sisters for the Franciscans in the Indonesian province.

Sister Brigid returned to the United States to receive a nursing certification from Sisters Hospital in Buffalo, a bachelor's degree in education from Medaille College in Buffalo and a master's degree in social work from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Sister Brigid also took courses in Franciscan spirituality at St. Bonaventure University. While abroad, she received another bachelor's degree from the Jesuit Catechetical College in Jogja, Java, where she served as a member of the institution's faculty for six years.

Throughout her ministry, Sister Brigid returned to Buffalo several times in between in her time serving in Indonesia, where she taught English to local seminarians.

She is survived by a brother, Joseph (Taine Rems) Conboy of Lubbock, Texas; nieces Maire (Kevin) Fowler, Katie Conboy (Tom O'Grady), Melissa Conboy (William Mountford), Amanda (Jaime) Carmona, Anne Byrne, Eileen (Jeffrey) Stone, and nephews James (Rebecca) Conboy and David (Karen) Conboy, as well as their families.

A funeral Mass was held in the chapel of St. Elisabeth Hospital, followed by burial in the OSF Cemetery in Ambarawa, Semarang, Indonesia.
