Teenagers throughout Kenmore showed that they were indeed ready to rock when they attended Mountstock. Six bands competed at Mount St. Mary Academy's ninth annual battle of the bands competition on Oct. 1. The winning band, Identical Difference, took home a $200 gift certificate to Guitar Center.

The Our Lady of Charity Parish "Summerfest" will take place from Thursday, July 28, through Saturday, July 30, at St. Ambrose located at 65 Ridgewood Road, Buffalo. The annual event benefits the entire parish, which includes the former parishes of St. Ambrose, Holy Family and St. Agatha.

One of the highlights of summer in the Southtowns each year is the lawn fete at St. John Vianney Parish in Orchard Park. The 24th annual event will take place from Friday, July 22, to Sunday, July 24. The lawn fete will run on Friday and Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 10 p.m.

HAMBURG — Hilbert College's Digital Media and Communication Department will host a Summer Film Camp for students in grades six to 10. Campers will work together to write, direct and shoot their very own short film.

KENMORE — Mount St. Mary Academy will present "Summer Sessions 2016" for girls entering grades five to eight. The program, running Aug. 1-5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school, will include a combination of athletic, arts and educational sessions.

Grammy-winning Catholic musician John Michael Talbot will come to Buffalo for a two-day ministry next month. The accomplished singer, author and television host will mix singing with preaching at St. Martin of Tours Parish in Buffalo May 16-17. Both days' events begin at 7 p.m.

Blessed Sacrament Parish in Tonawanda will host a screening of "The Original Image of Divine Mercy." The documentary tells the story of the actual painting of the Divine Mercy image as described by St. Faustina Kowalska from a vision of Jesus Christ.

Sister Karen Klimczak, SSJ, was a Sister of St. Joseph who devoted her life to prison ministry in Buffalo, where she offered troubled men a second chance to become productive members of society.

The Lasallian Association of Secondary School Chief Administrators (LASSCA) presented its Brother Michael Collins Award for Excellence to the St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Swing Choir, during its conference on Feb. 21, in San Antonio, Texas.

One of history's greatest examples of the triumph of spiritual power over violence and oppression is vividly recounted in "Liberating a Continent: John Paul II and the Fall of Communism," a new documentary film that poignantly captures the intricate role played by St. John Paul II in the fall of Communism and the liberation of Poland and Eastern Europe. The program will air on WNED-TV on Monday, March 7 at 8 p.m.

The Buffalo State College Newman Center will host a unique painting by a local artist during Lent. Henry Schmidt's "Christ, A Point of View" will hang in the chapel Feb. 10-March 25. The artist himself will give a talk about his work Feb. 17, at 7 p.m.

Mount St. Mary Academy teamed up with area schools in the spirit of jazz. Three Catholic high schools and three public high schools played on the same bill at a jazz festival at Banchetti by Rizzo's, Saturday, Jan. 30, beginning at 6 p.m.

Michael O'Brien wrote "Love is Stronger Than Pain," so that a life lived would end up a legacy remembered.

Being a part of a team at school often brings to mind sports teams, but Canisius High School Fine Arts Department Chair Kevin Durkin points out that the school's music programs could be considered teams as well.
