KENMORE — The St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Visual and Performing Arts Department is proud to announce the upcoming production of "Arsenic and Old Lace," written by Joseph Kesselring. The performances will take place in the Cullen Theater for the Arts at St. Joe's on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.

The Harmonia Chamber Singers, a professional vocal ensemble that performs across Western New York, will be performing at a special concert in Williamsville in October and a Latin Requiem Mass in downtown Buffalo in November.

A Western New York musician who studied in the Vatican has found success as a choir director at the University of Notre Dame. J.J. Wright, who released his most recent album, "Vespers for the Feast of the Transfiguration," last month, spoke about his lifelong interest in music and accomplishments with the Western New York Catholic as he began his new position at the prestigious Indiana university.

Traditionally in the Northeast, September is the time of year when people of all ages wave goodbye to summer and head back into the classroom. I would bet that, for most of us, youth ministry doesn't even enter our minds when we think about back-to-school. Yet, just like teachers, this is the time when youth ministers gear up to involve, engage and invite young people into the Church.

A Mass in honor of divine mercy and Hymn to St. Michael the Archangel, composed by David Butler, were premiered at the noon Mass on Pentecost Sunday at St. Michael Church in Buffalo. Butler, a well known Western New York musician and teacher, arranged and conducted the scores of his original works for voice, strings, piano and congregation. He was assisted by Jim McNeill, Colleen Mazella and the Burnett String Ensemble. Father Benjamin Fiore, SJ, pastor, presided and preached at the Mass.

On Friday, April 7 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Ministry Center, the MOMS ministry will be holding a mini retreat open to all, entitled, "Lighting the Way in Lent." Laura Boronski, a singer, songwriter, Catholic wife of 25 years and mother of eight, will be singing songs she wrote and recorded, including her famous "Stations of the Cross," which can be heard on local Catholic radio WLOF 101.7FM, the Station of the Cross.

The group will present two performances of "Into Light: A Concert by Candlelight," its fifth-annual presentation, at 7:30 p.m. on March 11 at St. Peter Church in Lewiston, and 7 p.m., March 12, at Assumption Church in Buffalo.

The Teaching and Restoring Youth program, or TRY program, has been serving young women in Buffalo since 1997. TRY offers a safe, structured environment to women between the ages of 16 and 21 who are homeless and who have suffered abuse, violence and victimization. The TRY program provides access to education, health care, counseling and job training.

The Singing Priest of South Buffalo has released a book for the season, called "Coming Home for Christmas Through Advent," which offers reflections on themes of the season that come from his two Christmas albums.
